NFL Game Summary - New England At NY Giants

POSTED: 10:12 pm EDT August 28, 2008

(Sports Network) - Backup quarterback David Carr threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns on 20-of-29 completions, as the New York Giants topped New England, 19-14, in the preseason finale for both teams at Giants Stadium.

Darcy Johnson and Sinorice Moss each caught a touchdown pass for the Giants (2-2), who begin their 2008 regular season September 4 by hosting division- rival Washington.

Kevin O'Connell threw for a touchdown and rushed for another for the Patriots (0-4), who start their campaign by welcoming Kansas City to Foxboro on September 7.

Back-up QB Matt Cassel started the game and completed 4-of-6 passes while Matt Gutierrez went 5-of-9 for 69 yards and an interception.

Neither Giants starting quarterback Eli Manning nor Pats signal-caller Tom Brady played a down in the contest.

That didn't slow down New York, which went ahead as Johnson hauled in a 26- yard pass from Carr midway through the first. Carr connected with Moss for a nine-yard TD in the second. After the failed kick, the Giants led 13-0 at the half.

Josh Huston hit a 20-yard field goal in the third and a 30-yarder in the fourth to boost the lead to 19-0 before New England responded with two late scores.

O'Connell hit Jackson for a 16-yard score and then ran one in from five yards out to account for the final margin.
