Owner Camps Out At Gas Station To Save Shop

Man Works To Prevent Company From Taking Business

A Sunoco franchise owner in Cambridge has been camped out at his gas station since last week to prevent the company from closing his shop, the Boston Herald reported.

Jamil H. Balaghi, 42, has been sleeping outside the Memorial Drive station since Aug. 18 to stop the company's efforts. Balaghi has filed a federal lawsuit against Sunoco. Sunoco representatives tried to measure the shop's garage doors on Tuesday to nail them shut. Earlier this year, Balaghi wrapped his shop in plastic to trap himself inside.

He said that the company is putting pressure on franchise owners to give up their businesses to the corporation, Balaghi told the Herald. No gas has been delivered to the station since July.

An attorney for Sunoco said told the Herald that Balaghi has been a bad manager and is not selling gas.
