BOSTON -- An Andover gas station sold gas Thursday at rock bottom rates as part of a promotion.

News Center Five's Pam Cross reported that it was a gimmick, a one-time thing, but cars were lined up down the block because the last time regular gas was $1.99 was mid-March 2005 -- more than three years ago.

The event was organized by Lukoil with the help of a local radio station.

"I got a full tank. Normally, it's like $70, $80. I got it for $40," motorist Ashley Despres.

If you use your car for work, like delivering pizza, gas prices hurt.

"I make, like, $50. I have to spend so much of it, so this is an absolute treat," motorist Conor Heelan said.

"Lukoil purchased Getty in the year 2000. We've been rebranding sites throughout New England. This year, we're rebranding about 15 sites in Massachusetts and New Hampshire," said Joe Despres, of Lukoil.

The local radio station helped whip up so much business that a police officer was called to direct traffic.

"I can't wait as soon as the hydrogen cars come out. I'm going to get rid of the hybrid, and I'm buying a hydrogen car," motorist Maurice Rogers said.
