BOSTON -- It may be a dubious distinction, but a Bay State bathroom is among one of the top 10 potties in the nation, according to the results of a nationwide survey. The toilet facilities in the Smith College Museum of Art in Northampton, Mass., are among the best in the country, according to this year's Cintas Corp. "Best Restroom Award" vote.It took No. 5 on the list for its water theme and array of hand-painted tiles and etched-glass panels depicting sea creatures and plant life.
It was beat out by potties in Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois. The Cintas Corporation provides restroom hygiene products and services and each year since 2001 has asked the Internet public to cast votes on the best restrooms in the country.Restrooms are recognized for exceptional hygiene and style.Taking the top stop this year was the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., for its art-deco-themed features such as leaded glass tiles, authentic terrazzo floors and its shoeshine station. It has been a setting, over the years, for music videos, business and political negotiations and even wedding photos, hotel officials said.Second place went to another hotel bathroom at the 21C Museum Hotel in Louisville, which boasts one-way mirrors facing the urinals and LCD screens with traveling images of eyes built into the mirror above the sink. The Brio Restaurant in Rockford, Ill., won third place for its mens and womens restrooms that have heaven and hell themes. Fourth place was captured by the Signature Room at the 95th which is on the 95th floor of Chicago's John Hancock Center.Remaining finalists on the list were found in New Mexico, New York, Pittsburgh, Penn., New Jersey and even at a truck stop in Iowa.
