BOSTON -- If you're a smoker, the state is hoping to get you to stop by giving you a chance to test out the nicotine patch for free.NewsCenter 5's Jim Boyd reported Tuesday that there are 900,000 smokers in Massachusetts, according to state health officials.VIDEO: State Giving Away Free Nicotine PatchesRecently, lawmakers on Beacon Hill added $1 to the tax on each pack of cigarettes, bringing the cost to roughly $6 or $7 per pack. Now, state public health officials are offering free nicotine patch kits as an incentive to smokers who want to kick the habit.The free patch kit contains about two weeks worth of patches.
